I confess, it can be real easy to be the one who praises Him when things turn out our way — all the Hosanna praise hands!! – and then be the one who hardens a bit when it doesn’t go our way.

“What can bring healing peace — is honest hosanna praise.”

Because that’s always the temptation when God doesn’t meet our expectations.

When God doesn’t work things out the way we want, someone always wants to grab a piece of wood and a hammer and nail down their own bloody way.

But the subversive truth is, and it comes on Palm Sunday:

What can bring healing peace — is honest hosanna praise.

What to hold on to on the hardest days is simply this:

Christ comes in ways as unexpected as riding a lowly donkey & the way to not miss out on seeing Him is to keep looking for Him in the ways you’d least expect Him.

God enters every moment in unlikely ways, & we always get to choose whether
we eventually wave a palm branch in honest praise
or only ever wave a hammer in angry protest.

“Palms raised in praise are our shield against the hard.”

Whatever way we’re on – we can all find ourselves wanting to reach for a shield to protect ourselves somehow from the hard and the heartbreaking.

And Palm Sunday sings that the best way to shield ourselves from the hard is to raise our palms in praise.

Palms raised in praise are our shield against the hard.

Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday — & the only way to live a holy life is with palms open wide.

When we keep our palms open and raised in praise – we rise and are open to hold more of God.

Meeting all our donkey moments with honest Hosannas can give us eyes to see Jesus even here.

And it’s possible:
We can all change, hard times can change, impossible things can change, even the stressed & hurting and heartbreaking can change:

Don’t believe things can entirely change?

“because of King Jesus, things can change, you can change, circumstances can change,
everything can change.”

Just look at Palm Sunday — to Good Friday — to Resurrection Sunday.

The way of things can rise … and fall… and rise again.

And the way through is to always keep believing, always keep hoping, always keep thanking, always keep the palms open and raised in praise  —

because of King Jesus, things can change, you can change, circumstances can change,
everything can change.

Hope! Healing! Hosanna!

He is the Way & all our ways are in His safe hands….
opening our palms in trust, especially now.

Hosanna, Thanks be to God, Hosanna!

Today, we are on the way,
when we trust Christ comes in ways
as unexpected as riding a lowly donkey
& the way to not miss out on seeing Him
is to keep looking for Him in the ways
you’d least expect Him.
